Barry Stelboum is a seasoned attorney with close to 30 years of experience in the advertising and marketing world. He has an expertise in all aspects of advertising and marketing law, including transactional work, creative reviews and approvals, intellectual property matters, production and business affairs. Additionally, he understands and appreciates the business of marketing and has cultivated his approach to his work as a business/creative-first attorney focused on achieving his client’s business objectives.  His experience in client/agency contract reviews for both traditional and digital businesses is second to none.

Wunderman Thompson LLC (1996-2021), Deputy General Counsel since 2013

​

  • drafted and negotiated a diverse range of complex agreements including agency-client master service agreements (and related statements of work), non-disclosure agreements, music and other third party rights license agreements, celebrity talent contracts, production agreements, software and other technology-related agreements

  • provided legal guidance to senior management, CFO/finance department and new business group on critical legal/business matters

  • partnered with Chief Information Officer and Chief Privacy Officer on data security and privacy matters

  • reviewed all advertising, marketing and promotional materials to help ensure that all product and service claims are substantiated and that the creative work does not violate third-party proprietary rights, such as copyrights, trademarks and right of publicity.

  • liaised with outside counsel on corporate, litigation and other specialty subject matter, such as corporate governance and filings.

  • served as company’s lead counsel for company’s business affairs and production departments, advising on, among other things, talent (union and non-union), music, and art buying

  • acted as company’s primary legal counsel for agency’s social media, entertainment and content-related activities

  • spoke at industry-related conferences and gave legal presentations to all members and levels of company staff
